Bryker Woods has many traditions that make it a special place for our students, families and community.
Family Picnic
The Bryker Woods Family Picnic is a fun annual event that takes place each September to celebrate the start of the new school year. Held outside on the playground, families bring blankets and their own food, or they can purchase food from one of the food trucks/vendors we’ll have on site. Live music is also provided!
Fall Carnival
Get that halloween costume ready! Bryker Woods’ Fall Carnival is just what remember from your days at elementary school: carnival booths, attractions, a cake walk, a Sweet Shop, food trucks and tons of energy-burning activities for the whole family. Each classroom is in charge of a game or attraction with parent volunteers recruited by classroom room parents. Tickets and wristbands will be for sale online and at the door, and financial assistance is available.
Spelling Bee
Get out your dictionaries! The Spelling Bee happens each December and is open to students in 1st through 5th grades. Practice sessions are held ahead of a written test; the top three scorers from each grade then advance to the LIVE bee held in the school cafeteria. The overall school champion will advance to the Regional Spelling Bee in March.
Science Fair
The Science Fair, held in January, is a perfect opportunity for kids to be fun and messy (if that is what floats your boat!), all while learning more about something that makes them curious. All students from K-5th are encouraged to participate and display their experiments and research projects for the whole school to view. Students may work individually or with one or two partners. Staff and parent volunteers judge projects and award winners, and every participant gets a ribbon. Top projects in 3rd–5th grades may even continue on to take part in the Austin Energy Regional Science Festival.
Spring Fling
Spring Fling is our annual auction and party (for the parents!) held each spring to raise funds for our school. Items and services are donated by families and local businesses, and auction items are sold to the highest bidder. Each classroom donates a themed basket that the parents either contribute items to or fund with donations.
AxBW
Arts by Bryker Woods (AxBW) is our very own spring Arts and Music festival, à la SxSW. Every student enrolled at Bryker Woods has at least one art project on display, and there are several stages set up around campus for students to showcase their talents. All students are encouraged to participate and cheer on their friends at this exciting event! AxBW would not be possible without a team of parent volunteers, so keep an eye on LivingTree for opportunities to contribute.
